FAQ

An Introduction To

BATTERY-
ELECTRIC POWER

Electric power stations are silent and clean alternatives to loud and toxic gas generators. They provide the power you need, wherever you need it, through electrical potential stored in compact Lithium Ion battery banks - ideal for both remote and indoor locations.

We represent the VOLTstack®️, manufactured by Portable Electric, because of its industry-leading reliability and environmentally conscious battery chemistry - Lithium Iron Phosphate. No Cobalt! Featuring world class battery and inverter technology housed inside a sleek enclosure with a simple interface, portable power is now safe and easy to use.

HOW DO I USE IT?

With the push of a couple buttons, you can have silent, clean energy at your fingertips.

To recharge the VOLTstack, simply plug it into a household outlet, or top it up on the go with our portable solar panels (SUNstack 200s). You can also utilize a hybrid solution, and eliminate fuel waste and fumes from idling generators, by recharging your VOLTstack with a traditional generator.

Once your VOLTstack is charged, simply roll it to where you need power, plug in your equipment, and POWER UP.

HOW BIG ARE THESE THINGS? ARE THEY HEAVY?

Size and weight vary by model. All units are on easy glide polymer casters that enable you to roll them from location to location, with an optional all-terrain kit for taking the units off-road.

2k VOLTstack

- Fits into the back seat of a standard car, or trunk of a hatchback/SUV (Secure With Straps)
- Can be lifted by 2 able-bodied individuals. (Team Lift).

5k VOLTstack
Weight: 330 lb / 150 kg
Dimensions: Unit incl. handles - 31’’ L x 20’’ W x 29’’ H
- Fits into larger vehicles such as trucks, vans, U-Hauls, etc. (Secure With Straps)
- Again, can be lifted by 2 able-bodied individuals, but we recommend using a ramp or lift-gate.

CAN YOU CHARGE IT WHILE YOU'RE USING IT TO POWER STUFF?

Yes, the VOLTstack can be charged from a wall outlet, solar panels, or even a generator while it’s being used!

You can also "daisy chain" two or more VOLTstacks together - enabling you to increase the available capacity without interrupting your power supply.

CAN THE VOLTSTACK BE USED IN INCLEMENT OR EXTREME WEATHER?

Yes! All our units conform to UL STD 1640 and certified to CSA 22.2 #14. In fact, VOLTstacks enable productions to continue filming during lightning storms when filming indoors. However, we do recommend putting a rain hat over the units to protect circuit connections, just as you would with most appliances, as there is always some element of risk with electrical enclosures when directly exposed to water.

Internal fans are used to cool the units as they work. This is the only “noise” you might hear from the units, though it is barely detectable to the naked ear, even with your face pressed against the vent.

Operating temperature (discharging): -20°C (-4°F) to 50°C (122°F)

HOW CAN I GET THE MOST OOMF OUT OF THESE THINGS?

Proper planning and assessment before gear deployment is essential to achieving desired results.

The best way to determine how many units are needed is to ask our staff! Shattered Prism is happy to provide power consultation services so you are confident in your decision to go green. Our team of Electrigeeks are eager to help you achieve the best results using VOLTstacks, no matter the use case.

VOLTstacks naturally last much longer when using LED lighting. Other low power drawing equipment such as battery chargers, cameras, technocranes, monitors, computers, cell-phone chargers, sound carts, etc. also last a considerable amount of time between charges even without a solar boost (see runtime chart below for more details). Some equipment, like fridges and power tools, use large amounts of energy - but do so intermittently - so they are great candidates for battery-electric power.

If you are looking to use heaters, cooling fans, or any cooking equipment we suggest using propane-fueled equipment or a hybrid of electric and gas power sources.

OKAY, SO HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The chart below details the average VOLTstack runtime for equipment commonly used by our clients. The scenarios are calculated under the assumption that the equipment is being used continuously at full power, without any power supplementation.
